Green is needed in the cities for their livability. Community-wise this question concerns everybody: how can the balance can be found between maintaining green spaces and the need for (affordable) housing? The Groen Platform Amsterdam (GPA) asked the Science Shop of Wageningen University & Research to provide a scientific basis for the value of the urban green in Amsterdam. In this research, three cases were investigated. All cases show that the value of green spaces in Amsterdam is considerable. Therefore, building plans for new homes must be weighed against the possible consequences for green areas. Green spaces need to be expanded and developed in a growing city.
